The Otter Valley has a climate that is described as Oceanic or Maritime Temperate where winters are mild for the latitude and the summers are warm but not hot. There is a tendency for less rainfall here along the south coast during the summer months and this can often lead to a soil moisture deficit. Places around the world that have a similar climate are the north and west coasts of France & Spain, north-western USA and south-western Canada, south-eastern coasts of Australia and all of coastal Tasmania, and most of the northern lowland parts of the south island of New Zealand. Cities of the world that have a similar climate are Seattle USA, Wellington & Christchurch NZ, Hobart in Tasmania and Santander in Spain.
