After the most miserable July things improved in August with much more sunshine and it was warmer too. There was a short unsettled spell mid-month but on the whole August was generally settled. There were no particularly hot days until the 25th and many of the nights were on the cool side. The mean temperature ended up below normal and it was also a wetter than average month.
