After the coldest December since 1890, relative normality returned to Devon in January.

Temperatures struggled for the first week but then climbed dramatically giving a warm spell of weather from the 7th to the 17th. The period from the 12th to the 16th was the warmest spell of January weather since January 2008 with temperatures staying continuously above 10°C for over 60 hours. Things then cooled down a little with a short cold spell to end the month.
Precipitation was slightly above average.
Frosts were quite frequent though generally slight but there was one severe frost on the 31st with a minimum of -6.7°C. Snow was not seen falling or lying at any point throughout the month.
Sunshine was disappointing for the first half of the month with a record amount of January 'dull days', things recovered somewhat for the 2nd half and overall the month ended up with around average sunshine amounts.
Soil temperatures were well below normal at the beginning but ended up near-normal at the end.
Winds were dominant from a northerly and north-easterly direction.
Rainfall duration was only 59 hours and cloud amounts were record-breakingly high.
Sea temperatures gradually recovered from near-record lows at the beginning of the month after an extremely cold December, even so they still ended up below normal at the end of the month.
Mean pressure was rather higher than the average for January.
Dewpoints were below average.
The RH ended up being a little below normal.
